Native hosts the first in a series of CDDP panels promoting director diversity


We were so happy to host CDDP this past weekend, as they kicked off their series of panels and workshops supporting unsigned directors from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.

Over the next three months, five talented directors handpicked by the CDDP will benefit from workshops, mentoring, shadowing and networking to increase their opportunities in the world of commercial directing.

On Saturday, the group joined director Ben West and Native’s very own EP Ned Brown for the first panel discussion of the day, Defining the Director’s Brand, organized by Program Director Tamika Lamison.

Our second workshop was Giving Great Calls (so important!), led by Shannon Jones (EP at Smuggler), Laura Keserick (Agency Producer at Pitch), and Sean Meehan (Arts & Sciences).

All the panelists contributed great advice and insight, garnered from their years of experience in this crazy industry.

Future workshops will cover the bidding process, writing and creating treatments, how to run callbacks, tech scouts, pre-pro meetings, and (gulp) how to meet the on-set needs of the agency and client.

The program will culminate in a grant to create a spec commercial – and we can’t wait to see it.
