The Conspicuous Awakening of Owen Wilson
Owen Wilson has woken up confused. And it’s not because he’s still recovering from the wedding he crashed last night. He’s enjoying the amenities of P&O’s newest ships, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden, so much that he’s slipped into multiple trances.
“The Conspicuous Awakening of Owen Wilson,” directed by Tom Dey with production support from yours truly, consists of 3 episodes. Each episode, ranging from 2 to 4 minutes in length, documents Owen’s time spent on the ships while simultaneously showing off the amenities available.
In the first episode of the trilogy, “The Earthling,” Owen wakes up in the lap of a beautiful Australian, who explains to him that he is not on Earth. Then, just as Owen is asking for a drink, an equally beautiful woman hands him one before he can even finish his sentence.
In “Losing It,” episode two, Owen wakes up floating in a pool, sharing a float with another Australian who informs him he is indeed on a ship.
And finally, in episode three, “The Secret,” he is at a sushi dinner with yet another woman. He is able to use chopsticks, which he claims he doesn’t know how to do, but as Owen is beginning to learn, on these ships you can do anything. The episode ends with Owen and the woman from “The Earthling” episode, who tells him that all the people he has encountered are “Cruiselings.”
The P&O “Be Free Earthlings” campaign is the idea that cruise line’s “cruiselings” can do whatever, whenever, however. The campaign includes film, content, digital, social media, PR, and an on-set interview with Owen, himself.
P&O Cruises head of marketing and distribution, Simon Cheng said “Hollywood, like Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden, exudes style and sophistication, so it was to Hollywood we looked to help launch these ships. We wanted the right star – someone easy going and lots of fun, just like the experience Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden will offer. In Owen we found our perfect partner.”
Since the episodes were released in Australia, the U.S. does not have access to viewing, however, photos in the gallery below are available from each episode.
